Jun 2, 2017 at 22:24 | comment | added | Linus | @mvds Thanks for the help, here is a really cool image I generated going up to 20 order polynomial with only -1 or 1 coefficients: imgur.com/a/CqZsU
Jun 2, 2017 at 20:10 | comment | added | mvds | As the code stands now, we have w*h buckets of 64 bits wide, that need to be mapped to a (smaller, typically 8 bit) pixel values. If we want to skip the buckets and write directly to a bitmap, you have to mix the color in the bitmap at that point with the color of the newly plotted point, which is called alpha blending.
Jun 2, 2017 at 20:06 | comment | added | mvds | I added the relevant code for gnuplot
Jun 2, 2017 at 19:58 | comment | added | Tamoghna Chowdhury | @Linus Alpha blending is linear interpolation of 2 colors with a normalized transparency (alpha) value as the bias.

Jun 2, 2017 at 18:33 | comment | added | Linus | Not sure if gnuplot supports that but I'll try. What do you mean by alpha blending?
Jun 2, 2017 at 18:27 | comment | added | mvds | You should look into a way to plot the bitmap directly
Jun 2, 2017 at 18:23 | comment | added | Linus | That works, but I lose a lot of detail: imgur.com/a/Nx61B
Jun 2, 2017 at 18:18 | comment | added | mvds | You have a few points with extremely high value (e.g. 0,0). You should either hardcode some low v_max or use a logarithmic scale.
Jun 2, 2017 at 18:07 | comment | added | Linus | Thanks for the tips, for some reason when I ran the code with the bucket implementation with max_degree being set to 5 I got a black image. Here is a pastebin: pastebin.com/HcXfKqvT and this is what it looks like: imgur.com/a/eLAnr
