Being a moderator does greatly improve your toolbox considering you're not even close to a 10k+ user yet, but I'd expect you to use the tools you have currently to your disposal before longing for more. That's what I'm getting at.
Spam is mostly countered by the Charcoal project and spam flags. You have some experience there, but I've seen some of your activity and you're far from 'experienced' yet. That's ok, we all had to learn. But stepping up to become a moderator here may be premature.
