ZeroTileOutsideException exception(std::string("'m_zero_tile_y == m_height - 1' upon slideDown")); this line looks weird. Are you using MSVC? This is their non-standard extension that allows non-lvalues to be passed as lvalue-references. Perhaps you wanted to take string in the constructor by const reference?
