See the documentation: "built-in types in CPython currently still implement __getslice__() . Therefore, you have to override it in derived classes when implementing slicing."

Wonderful! One clarification: Do I understand correctly that the __*slice__ methods are redundant if I'm handling slices in __*item__ , even in 2.7.X?
