The free(st); st = NULL; is a developing style that encourages early (fault) detection of dereferencing st later in code. True that in deleteStack() , there is no later code. Yet setting a pointer to NULL after free() is a defensive coding practice - which should be encouraged. I would even re-design void deleteStack(Stack* st) --> void *deleteStack(Stack* st) or void deleteStack(Stack** st) to allow the calling code to benefit from this NULL assignment.
